Habitat Management
You have spent all summer closely watching a particular deer. Hunting season comes, days pass, and all of a sudden, he is gone. You check trail cameras and...nothing. What happened?
Nothing out of the ordinary, actually. A couple of guys hunting rabbits just happened to push through a thicket on top of the hill behind your stand, effectively scaring off the deer. What you wouldn’t know is that little rabbit hunt cost you your deer. If the guys walked through the deer’s bedding area they certainly bumped him out. They probably never saw him, and he just got up and escaped.
This is an actual scenario from one of our first-hand experiences. Hunting Land Consulting can help you avoid this and other issues that will inevitably arise as you work on your property. Whether it is trespassing, theft, illegal hunting, or our all-time favorite, fenceline shooting, we can help you shoot such instances down by putting a strategy in place.
We can help you set your property to direct habitats inwards or make property crossings advantageous to you and difficult for outsiders. It’s not about turning your grounds into a war zone. We know there are many advocates that want you to spend thousands digging ditches and putting up miles of snow fence to herd the deer on a specific path, but there are more attractive and natural ways.
Before you start hinging thousands of dollars in marketable timber or making it look like a bomber leveled half your woods, let us show you better alternatives. The key takeaway here is: Deer are free-range animals that can be manipulated. If they are too controlled, however, they start looking for friendlier places.
